We previously described the molecular cloning of a replication-defective variant of feline leukemia virus (FeLV) that induced fatal immunodeficiency in cats. Eighteen proviruses have now been molecularly cloned from cats inoculated with the original isolate (FeLV-FAIDS) or its in vivo passages.
