Ethylene glycol mono-n-alkyl ethers are a major class of industrial chemicals which cause a wide range of toxic effects in laboratory animals including reproductive and developmental toxicity, as well as hematotoxicity. Alkoxyacetic acids are the major metabolites of ethylene glycol ethers and are considered to be the proximate toxic metabolites.
