The chromosomes of 280 unselected phenotypically nromal newborn babies were examined for minor structural variations. In 32 children such marker chromosomes could be established. Unexpectedly the structural variants were twice as frequent in male than in female babies. Checking the population cytogenetic findings of other autors this phenomenon could be confirmed.
