Intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs), which play key roles in cell signaling and regulation, do not display specific tertiary structure when isolated in solution. Instead, they dynamically explore an ensemble of unfolded configurations, adopting more stable, ordered structures only after binding to their ligands.
