An immunologically active teichoic acid component was isolated from the cell wall of Listeria monocytogenes strain EGD. The teichoic acid component, accounting for about 20% of the weight of cell wall, contained N-acetylglucosamine, rhamnose, ribitol, and phosphorus in a molar ratio of 0.95 : 1.0 : 0.97 : 0.98.
