We study the dependence of surface mass density profiles, which can be directly measured by weak gravitational lensing, on the orientation of haloes with respect to the line-of-sight direction, using a suite of $N$-body simulations. We find that, when major axes of haloes are aligned with the line-of-sight direction, surface mass density profiles have higher amplitudes than those averaged over all halo orientations, over all scales from $0.1$ to $100\,\mathrm{Mpc}/h$ we studied. While the…

Statistical exploration of halo anisotropic clustering and intrinsic alignments with the mass-Peak Patch algorithm

The anisotropy or triaxiality of massive dark matter haloes largely defines the structure of the cosmic web, in particular the filaments that join the haloes together. Here, we investigate such

Power spectrum of halo intrinsic alignments in simulations

We use a suite of $N$-body simulations to study intrinsic alignments (IA) of halo shapes with the surrounding large-scale structure in the $\Lambda$CDM model. For this purpose, we develop a novel

Out of sight, out of mind? The impact of correlated clustering in substructure lensing

A promising route for revealing the existence of dark matter structures on mass scales smaller than the faintest galaxies is through their effect on strong gravitational lenses. We examine the role

BIASES IN THE GRAVITATIONAL LENS POPULATION INDUCED BY HALO AND GALAXY TRIAXIALITY
