We present a detailed review of the moduli stabilisation mechanism and possible cosmological implications of the LARGE Volume Scenario (LVS) that emerges naturally in the context of type IIB Calabi‐Yau flux compactifications. After a quick overview of physics beyond the Standard Model, we present string theory as the most promising candidate for a consistent theory of quantum gravity. We then give a pedagogical introduction to type IIB compactifications on Calabi‐Yau orientifolds where most of…

String theory is one of the most active branches of theoretical physics and constitutes the most promising candidate for a consistent fundamental theory describing our Universe. Its structure

The type IIB string axiverse and its low-energy phenomenology

A bstractWe study closed string axions in type IIB orientifold compactifications. We show that for natural values of the background fluxes the moduli stabilisation mechanism of the LARGE Volume

Obstacles to realizing Quintessence from String Theory

In this master thesis we analyze the construction of quintessence models by flux compactification of type IIB string theory. We focus on Kahler moduli as candidates for the quintessence field and

Fuzzy Dark Matter from String Axions

In this thesis we study the viability for ultra-light axions coming from moduli stabilisation in the Large volume scenario to fit recent observations about the dark matter presence in several

Moduli redefinitions and moduli stabilisation

Field redefinitions occur in string compactifications at the one loop level. We review arguments for why such redefinitions occur and study their effect on moduli stabilisation and supersymmetry

Testing string vacua in the lab: from a hidden CMB to dark forces in flux compactifications

We perform a detailed analysis of the phenomenological properties of hidden Abelian gauge bosons with a kinetic mixing with the ordinary photon within type IIB flux compactifications. We study the

Toric K3-fibred Calabi-Yau manifolds with del Pezzo divisors for string compactifications

A bstractWe analyse several explicit toric examples of compact K3-fibred Calabi-Yau three-folds. These manifolds can be used for the study of string dualities and are crucial ingredients for the

A bstractType II string theory and M-theory admit flux configurations that break supersymmetry below the Kaluza-Klein scale. These backgrounds play a central role in most models of the string

Towards a systematic construction of realistic D-brane models on a del Pezzo singularity

A systematic approach is followed in order to identify realistic D-brane models at toric del Pezzo singularities. Requiring quark and lepton spectrum and Yukawas from D3 branes and massless

Modulated reheating and large non-gaussianity in string cosmology

A generic feature of the known string inflationary models is that the same physics that makes the inflaton lighter than the Hubble scale during inflation often also makes other scalars this light.

General analysis of LARGE Volume Scenarios with string loop moduli stabilisation

We study the topological conditions for general Calabi-Yaus to get a non-supersymmetric AdS exponentially large volume minimum of the scalar potential in flux compactifications of IIB string theory.

Moduli Stabilisation versus Chirality for MSSM like Type IIB Orientifolds

We investigate the general question of implementing a chiral MSSM like D-brane sector in Type IIB orientifold models with complete moduli stabilisation via F-terms induced by fluxes and space-time

Constraints on modular inflation in supergravity and string theory

We perform a general algebraic analysis on the possibility of realising slow-roll inflation in the moduli sector of string models. This problem turns out to be very closely related to the

Large-volume flux compactifications: Moduli spectrum and D3/D7 soft supersymmetry breaking

We present an explicit calculation of the spectrum of a general class of string models, corresponding to Calabi-Yau flux compactifications with h1,2 > h1,1 > 1 with leading perturbative and

Systematics of moduli stabilisation in Calabi-Yau flux compactifications

We study the large volume limit of the scalar potential in Calabi-Yau flux compactifications of type IIB string theory. Under general circumstances there exists a limit in which the potential

Systematics of string loop corrections in type IIB Calabi-Yau flux compactifications

We study the behaviour of the string loop corrections to the N = 1 4D supergravity Kahler potential that occur in flux compactifications of IIB string theory on general Calabi-Yau three-folds. We

Realistic D-brane models on warped throats: Fluxes, hierarchies and moduli stabilization

We describe the construction of string theory models with semirealistic spectrum in a sector of (anti) D3-branes located at an orbifold singularity at the bottom of a highly warped throat geometry,

Two-field Kähler moduli inflation in large volume moduli stabilization

In this paper we present a two-field inflation model, which is distinctive in having a non-canonical kinetic Lagrangian and comes from the large volume approach to the moduli stabilization in flux

Brane-antibrane inflation in orbifold and orientifold models

We analyse the cosmological implications of brane-antibrane systems in string-theoretic orbifold and orientifold models. In a class of realistic models, consistency conditions require branes and
