A double-beam wavelength modulation technique has been used to measure the effect of static uniaxial compression along the [111] and [001] directions on the E1 and E1 + Δ1 peaks of the reflection spectrum of InSb and GaSb. The splitting of these peaks under [111] stress and the absence of a splitting for [001] stress confirms the Λ symmetry of the corresponding critical points.
