Publisher Summary This chapter compares two modes of eye-head coordination: those eye-head movements following the appearance of an unexpected and stationary target in space and the coordination of the eyes with head observed during smooth tracking in monkeys. It was found that the vestibular apparatus not only plays a crucial role in both strategies, but also both strategies depend on a “signal” delivered in parallel and approximately simultaneously to both eye and head motor systems.
