Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is more aggressive in individuals coinfected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV): in the presence of HIV, HBV carrier rates and viremia levels are higher, episodes of activation are more frequent, cirrhosis progresses more quickly, and hepatocellular carcinoma occurs more often than with HBV infection alone. As in HBV monotherapy, the objective of treatment is suppression of viral replication. Standard or pegylated interferon may be appropriate treatment…
HIV/HBV Co-infection - A Global Challenge
TLDR
The overall status of HIV/HBV co-infection is brought to light to identify drug resistance and viral breakthrough early, and to determine which combinations are most effective and least toxic together with anti-HIV regimens.
HIV/HBV Co-Infections: Epidemiology, Natural History, and Treatment: A Review Article
TLDR
The latest statistics on epidemiology of HIV, HBV and their co-infection has been presented and the optimal treatment options, whether the patient is treated for HBV first, HIV first, or HIV and HBV together are outlined.

Difficulties in Therapeutic Management of a Gabonese Patient with Cerebral Toxoplasmosis Associated to Extra Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Case HIV-HBV Co-Infection
TLDR
The case of an association of cerebral toxoplasmosis with mediastinal lymph node tuberculosis in a patient with HIV-HBV co-infection, which resulted in severe drug hepatitis that was probably favored by hepatitis B that HIV infection would have worsened.
Clinical outcome of a patient cohort with acute hepatitis B
TLDR
The objective of this study was to describe the clinical outcomes of patients with confirmed acute hepatitis B in the South region of Brazil in the city of Porto Alegre from 1999 to 2007.
Chronic hepatitis B: integrating long-term treatment data and strategies to improve outcomes in clinical practice.
TLDR
This monograph will review recently published data on hepatitis B antiviral medications, as well as explore when to consider cessation of therapy, the treatment of special patient populations and the need to screen patients for hepatocellular carcinoma.
Screening and diagnosis of HBV in low-income and middle-income countries
HBV testing and diagnosis of HBV-related liver disease in low-income and middle-income countries differs substantially from that in developed countries in terms of access to resources and expensive

Optimal Control Dynamics: Multi-therapies with Dual Immune Response for Treatment of Dual Delayed HIV-HBV Infections
TLDR
Following the dual role of the adaptive immune system, which culminated into triple-dual application of multi-therapies, the investigation was characterized by dual delayed HIV-HBV virions decays from infected double-lymphocytes in a biphasic manner, accompanied by more complex decay profiles of infectious dual HIV- HBv virions.

TLDR
In patients with lamivudine-refractory chronic hepatitis B, switching to entecavir provides superior histologic improvement, viral load reduction, and ALT normalization compared with continuing lamivUDine, with a comparable adverse event profile.
