Detailed study ofadze production sites at Pohakuloa by the University ofHawai 'i Archaeological Field School provided new insights on traditional Hawaiian economic organization. Most importantly, these sites reveal that Mauna Kea basalt was used to manufacture adzes outside of the main quarry.
