Chemically synthesized mastoparan M, a tetradecapeptide toxin of venom (INLKAIAALAKKLL), was used in the experiments described. After addition of mastoparan M to cultures of mouse macrophages in vitro, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin 1beta (IL-1beta) were detected in the culture fluids by 12 h and their highest accumulation was observed by 24 h. Mastoparan M induced increases in both TNF-alpha secretion and mRNA level at the same time. Nitrite levels, which reflect…
Inflammatory Role of Two Venom Components of Yellow Jackets (Vespula vulgaris): A Mast Cell Degranulating Peptide Mastoparan and Phospholipase A1
TLDR
The findings suggest that mastoparan can function as a weak adjuvant for TH2 cell-associated antibody response to yellow jacket venom, which contains two inflammatory components, mastoparan and phospholipase A1.
Synergistic activity of chlorhexidine and synoeca‐MP peptide against Pseudomonas aeruginosa
TLDR
According to the results, synoeca‐MP combined with CHX demonstrated antimicrobial effectiveness compared with its isolated use, in addition to immunomodulatory activity (upregulating MPC‐1 and tumor necrosis factor‐α and downregulating nitric oxide and interleukin‐10).
Identification and biochemical characterization of a new antibacterial and antifungal peptide derived from the insect Sphodromantis viridis
TLDR
The findings of the present study reveal that this newly described peptide can be introduced as an appropriate candidate for treatment of topical infection.
Non-disulfide-bridged peptides from Tityus serrulatus venom: Evidence for proline-free ACE-inhibitors
TLDR
The present study purifies two T. serrulatus non-disulfide-bridged peptides and discovers that the isolated peptides 7.2 and 8 are fragments of the same molecule, named Pape peptide precursor, which can be seen as a clever mechanism used by the scorpion to enlarge its repertoire of venom components.
Crystal structure of mastoparan from Polistes jadwagae at 1.2 A resolution.
TLDR
The first crystal structure of mastoparan from Polistes jadwagae (MP-PJ) is reported at 1.2 A resolution and it is proposed that the interactions betweenmastoparan molecules play an important role in forming the alpha-helical conformation, which is highly related to their biological activities.
