Abstract : During this grant we installed a 3D Systems SLA 250/40 stereolithography apparatus, and used it to directly fabricate ceramic green bodies from ultraviolet (UV) curable solutions which contain dispersed ceramic powders. We emphasized SLA of alumina as a structural ceramic and for investment casting cores. Viscosity was reduced with improved dispersion. The quality of the prototypes was improved by determination of appropriate build styles, and by optimization of photoinitiators and…

Curing Behavior of Ceramic Resin for Stereolithography

Ceramic green bodies have been created with stereolithography methods by using ultraviolet curable suspension of ceramic powders, a "ceramic resin", on a Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA). A minivat

Rheological behavior of epoxy acrylate prepolymer during UV curing

The effects of sample thickness and curing temperature on the dynamic viscoelastic behavior were investigated during UV curing of an epoxy acrylate prepolymer by the use of an oscillating plate

Dynamic viscoelastic measurements of photosensitive polymers

A new type of rheometer for measuring the dynamic viscoelastic properties of photosensitive polymers was developed. When the photosensitive polymer is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, the

SCATTERING OF ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION IN TURBID SUSPENSIONS

A Beer’s law expression for the penetration depth of ultraviolet radiation in a concentrated suspension of scattering particles is used to model the depth of cure for a suspension of ceramic
