Repetitive stimulation of a dorsal root evoked stepping movements of the hind limbs of a mesencephalic cat on a moving treadmill. The step duration either a) correlated with the stimulus frequency or b) depended entirely on the speed of the treadmill. The stimulus frequency evoking walking in transmamillary preparations, which could not walk on a moving treadmill without electrical stimulation, was 0.5/sec, compared with 2/sec for postmamillary preparations.
