Both species of native crocodile, Siamese Crocodile Crocodylus siamensis and Estuarine Crocodile C. porosus, are seriously threatened in the wild in Vietnam. The swamp forest of the U Minh region in southern Vietnam was recently suggested to harbor the last remaining wild Estuarine Crocodiles in the country. We investigated the status of crocodiles in the U Minh Thuong Nature Reserve by conducting field surveys and interviewing local people. Field surveys found no signs of living wild… Expand

A SURVEY TO DETERMINE THE CONSERVATION STATUS OF SIAMESE CROCODILES IN KAENG KRACHAN NATIONAL PARK , THAILAND
—The Siamese Crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) is one of the most endangered crocodilians in the world, and wild populations throughout Southeast Asia have precipitously declined over the last 50Expand
Status of Siamese Crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) Schneider, 1801 (Reptilia: Crocodylia) in Laos
TLDR
The first in-depth surveys for C. siamensis in Laos with new field data on ecology and conservation suggest that a severe range decline has occurred over the past century, although most wetlands remain unsurveyed for crocodiles. Expand
Siamese Crocodile Crocodylus siamensis
TLDR
Crocodylus siamensis is one of the world’s most endangered crocodilians and in 1992 it was reported as virtually extinct in the wild, but since 1996, new status assessments have resulted in the discovery of wild populations and information on its global distribution and ecology, although it remains one the least known of crocodilian. HERPETODIVERSITY OF THE CON DAO ARCHIPELAGO AND A PROVISIONAL LIST OF AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES OF CON DAO NATIONAL PARK (BA RIA - VUNG TAU PROVINCE, VIETNAM)
The Con Dao Archipelago includes 16 mountainous islands and islets belonging to Ba Ria Vung Tau province and is one of the southernmost territories of Vietnam. These offshore islands are ofExpand
A Biogeographic Synthesis of the Amphibians and Reptiles of Indochina
TLDR
The first biogeographic synthesis of the regional herpetofauna since the first half of the 20th century is undertaken, and contribution of subtropical biota to Indochina's fauna is significantly greater than that of tropical biota and there is little other evidence for intermixing at intermediate latitudes. Expand
Analysis of genetic variation and bottleneck in a captive population of Siamese crocodile using novel microsatellite loci
TLDR
The bottleneck analysis provided evidence of a significant genetic signature of population decline and investigation of genetic variation for Siamese crocodile can help to conserve and improve this endangered species. Expand
Molecular identification of crocodile species using novel primers for forensic analysis
TLDR
Two novel sets of primers are developed to amplify two partial cytochrome b gene sequences of six crocodile species to give a complete cyt b gene sequence, which can be used as an effective tool for forensic authentication of crocodiles species. Expand
Mitochondrial 16S ribosomal RNA gene for forensic identification of crocodile species.
TLDR
A set of 16S rRNA primers for PCR based identification of crocodilian species hold great promise in forensic identification of Crocodile species, which can aid in the effective enforcement of law and conservation of these species. Expand

Status of the Siamese crocodile in Vietnam
Abstract The Siamese crocodile Crocodylus siamensis, now regarded as one of the world's most endangered crocodilians, was formerly common in the wetlands of southern Vietnam. Populations are thoughtExpand
Crocodiles : status survey and conservation action plan
TLDR
Aimed at government agencies, management authorities, funding agencies, researchers, non-governemental organisations and other conservation bodies, it provides an updated set of action recommendations for each of the 23 species of crocodilians. Expand
Crocodiles: An action plan for their conservation
TLDR
This Action Plan describes the conservation status of 23 species of the order Crocodylia found worldwide and sets out recommended priority conservation projects. Expand
Mark―recapture to assess factors affecting the proportion of a Nile crocodile population seen during spotlight counts at Ngezi, Zimbabwe, and the use of spotlight counts to monitor crocodile abundance
TLDR
Analysis shows that uncorrected counts undertaken in October/November at the time of lowest water and highest temperatures would have been useful indices of abundance at Ngezi. Expand
