We present a statistical study of the largest bibliographic compilation of stellar and orbital parameters of W UMa stars derived by light-curve synthesis with Roche models. The compilation includes nearly 700 individually investigated objects from over 450 distinct publications. Almost 70% of this sample is comprised of stars observed in the past decade that have not been considered in previous statistical studies. We estimate the ages of the cataloged stars, model the distributions of their… Expand

Eclipsing Binary Stars: Modeling and Analysis - Astronomy and Astrophysics Library
This book focuses on the formulation of mathematical models for the light curves of eclipsing binary stars, and on the algorithms for generating such models. Since information gained from binaryExpand

MESA ISOCHRONES AND STELLAR TRACKS (MIST) 0: METHODS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF STELLAR ISOCHRONES
I describe a method to transform a set of stellar evolution tracks onto a uniform basis and then interpolate within that basis to construct stellar isochrones. This method accommodates a broad rangeExpand
Possible solution to the problem of the extreme mass ratio W UMa-type binaries
When the total angular momentum of a binary system is at a critical (minimum) value, a tidal instability occurs (Darwin’s instability), eventually forcing the stars to merge into a single, rapidlyExpand
The minimum mass ratio of W UMa-type binary systems
When the total angular momentum of a binary system J tot = J orb + J spin is at a certain critical (minimum) value, a tidal instability occurs which eventually forces the stars to merge into aExpand

Can full convection explain the observed short-period limit of the W UMa-type binaries?
Stars become fully convective at low effective temperatures. The unique mass-radius relation for fully convective stars (at a given effective temperature) cannot be reconciled with such a relationExpand
