We analyze the statistical mechanics of a gas of neutral and charged black holes. The microcanonical ensemble is the only possible approach to this system, and the equilibrium configuration is the one for which most of the energy is carried by a single black hole. Schwarzschild black holes are found to obey the statistical bootstrap condition. In all cases, the microcanonical temperature is identical to the Hawking temperature of the most massive black hole in the gas. U(1) charges in general… Expand
Statistical mechanics of (2 + 1)-dimensional black holes
Abstract By using the Euclidean action and the semi-classical approach, the statistical mechanics of a three dimensional (3D) gas of non-spinning Banados, Teitelboim and Zanelli black holes isExpand
Microcanonical Description of (Micro) Black Holes
TLDR
The microcanonical approach can provide a consistent description of black holes and their Hawking radiation at all energy scales and is particularly relevant for the analysis of micro-black holes whose existence is predicted in models with extra-spatial dimensions. Expand
On time evolution of quantum black holes
Abstract The time evolution of black holes involves both the canonical equations of quantum gravity and the statistical mechanics of Hawking radiation, neither of which contains a time variable. InExpand
Theoretical survey of tidal-charged black holes at the LHC
We analyse a family of brane-world black holes which solve the effective four-dimensional Einstein equations for a wide range of parameters related to the unknown bulk/brane physics. We firstExpand
On dispersion relations and the statistical mechanics of Hawking radiation
We analyse the interplay between dispersion relations for the spectrum of Hawking quanta and the statistical mechanics of such a radiation. We first find the general relation between the occupationExpand
Thermal BEC Black Holes
TLDR
Corrections to the Klein–Gordon equation for a toy graviton field coupled to a static matter current in a spherically-symmetric setup suggest that for black holes in this quantum state, the evaporation properly stops for a vanishing mass. Expand
Relic Radiation from an Evaporating Black Hole
This paper presents a non-string-theoretic calculation of the microcanonical entropy of relic integer-spin Hawking radiation, at fixed total energy E, from an evanescent, neutral, non-rotatingExpand
Microcanonical treatment of black hole decay at the large hadron collider
This study of corrections to the canonical picture of black hole decay in large extra dimensions examines the effects of back-reaction corrected and microcanonical emission at the large hadronExpand
Microcanonical model for a gaz of evaporating black holes and strings, scattering amplitudes and mass spectrum
We study the system formed by a gaz of black holes and strings within a microcanonical formulation. We derive the microcanonical content of the system: entropy, equation of state, number ofExpand
Possibility of catastrophic black hole growth in the warped brane-world scenario at the LHC
In this paper, we present the results of our analysis of the growth and decay of black holes possibly produced at the Large Hadron Collider, based on our previous study of black holes in the contextExpand
