We present a statistical approach to assess relations that hold among speech and pointing gestures in and between turns in task-oriented dialogue. The units quantified over are the time-stamps of theXML -based annotation of the digital video data. It was found that, on average, gesture strokes do not exceed, but are freely distributed over the time span of their linguistic affiliates.
