Analyzing the effects of ocean eddies is important in oceanology for gaining insights into transport of energy and biogeochemical particles. We present an application of statistical visualization algorithms for the analysis of the Red Sea eddy simulation ensemble. Specifically, we demonstrate the applications of statistical volume rendering and statistical Morse complex summary maps to a velocity magnitude field for studying the eddy positions in the flow dataset. In statistical volume…

Uncertainty-aware Detection and Visualization of Ocean Eddies in Ensemble Flow Fields - A Case Study of the Red Sea
Eddy detection is a state of the art tool to examine transport behavior in oceans, as they form circular movements that are highly involved in transferring mass in an ocean. To achieve this, ocean

Gaussian mixture model based volume visualization
This paper presents a new volume rendering method using per voxel Gaussian mixture models (GMMs) as the input data representation, an elegant and compact way to drastically reduce the amount of data stored while still enabling realtime data access and rendering on the GPU.
Uncertainty Visualization of 2D Morse Complex Ensembles Using Statistical Summary Maps
This work introduces three types of statistical summary maps the probabilistic map, the significance map, and the survival map to characterize the uncertain behaviors of gradient flows and demonstrates the utility of the proposed approach using wind, flow, and ocean eddy simulation datasets.
Direct Volume Rendering with Nonparametric Models of Uncertainty
The quantile interpolation technique is exploited to derive probability distributions representing uncertainty in viewing-ray sample intensities in closed form, which allows for accurate and efficient computation.
A Statistical Direct Volume Rendering Framework for Visualization of Uncertain Data
A statistical framework for quantification of uncertainty and its propagation in the main stages of the visualization pipeline is presented and a novel generalization of Irwin-Hall distributions from the statistical viewpoint of splines and box-splines is proposed that enables interpolation of random variables.

Visualization and Visual Analysis of Ensemble Data: A Survey
This paper study ensemble visualization works in the recent decade, and categorize them from two perspectives: (1) their proposed visualization techniques; and (2) their involved analytic tasks.
Mandatory Critical Points of 2D Uncertain Scalar Fields
A novel, non‐local characterization of critical points and their global relation in 2D uncertain scalar fields and a simplification scheme for mandatory critical point pairs revealing the most dominant features is introduced.
