In the past ten years, a number of pipeline leak detection systems have been implemented on various operational pipelines. Unfortunately, the feedback from pipeline operators illustrates that many of these systems have not performed satisfactorily for the following reasons: They generate frequent nuisance alarms when there is no leak in a pipeline.
