Ceramic matrix composites are potential candidates for use at high temperatures, in various systems including aerojet engines, stationary gas turbines for electrical power/steam cogeneration and components in nuclear power plants. It has been demonstrated that ultimate failure is dictated by fiber tows in those composites reinforced by a stack of woven fabrics. A multiscale approach to the fatigue of CMCs is being devised.
