}The state-to-state dynamics of high-n Rydberg H-atom scattering with para-H2 at the collision energies of 0.45 and 1.07 eV have been studied using the H-atom Rydberg tagging time-of-flight technique. Both the inelastic scattering and reactive scattering are observed in the experimental time-of-flight spectra. The products H2(v', j' = odd) come only from reactive scattering and present clearly forward-backward asymmetric angular distributions, which differ from those of the corresponding ion…

Perspective: The development and applications of H Rydberg atom translational spectroscopy methods.
- Chemistry, PhysicsThe Journal of chemical physics
- 2018
This perspective traces the development of the H Rydberg atom translational spectroscopy technique from a serendipitous first encounter through to the present and highlights the advances that make it the method of choice for studying many benchmark photofragmentation and photoinduced collision processes that yield H (or D) atoms amongst the products.

- 2005
Full quantum-state resolved scattering of a highly excited Rydberg H atom with D2 has been carried out using the Ryd Berg H-atom time-of-flight method, providing a promising tool for investigating the state-to-state dynamics of certain elementary ion-molecule reactions.
Observation of Extremely High Vibrational Excitation in O2 from Inelastic Scattering of Rydberg H Atom with O2.

The striking observation of extremely high energy transfer from translational to vibrational excitation at the backward direction could be explained involving charge transfer between proton and O2 molecule and possibly complex formation during the scattering process.

Full quantum-state resolved differential cross-sections of the H*(n) + o-D2 → HD + D*(n′) reaction have been measured for the first time using the Rydberg H-atom time-of-flight method. Experimental…
Vibrationally inelastic H + D2 collisions are forward-scattered
- PhysicsProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
- 2008
The present work shows that quantum mechanical calculations agree closely with experiments and expands upon previous results to show that forward-scattering is universally observed in vibrationally inelastic H + D2 collisions over a broad range of conditions.
Reactive scattering of rydberg atoms: H* + D2 --> HD + D*.

The extracted rovibrationally resolved state distributions of the HD product molecules from reactive collisions resemble closely those reported for the corresponding ion-molecule reaction, H+ + D2 --> HD + D+.
State-to-state dynamics of the H(*)(n) + HD → D(*)(n') + H2 reactive scattering.
- PhysicsThe Journal of chemical physics
- 2014
Experimental results show that the angular distribution of the total H2 products presents clearly forward-backward asymmetric, which considerably differs from that of the corresponding H(+) + HD → D(*)(n(')) + H2 reaction predicted by previously theoretical calculations.
Chemical reaction dynamics of Rydberg atoms with neutral molecules: a comparison of molecular-beam and classical trajectory results for the H(n)+D2-->HD+D(n') reaction.
- Physics, ChemistryThe Journal of chemical physics
- 2005
A classical trajectory calculation on the ion-molecule reaction is employed to facilitate a more extensive comparison between the two systems and tends to confirm the equivalence of the ion+ molecule dynamics to that for the Rydberg-atom+molecules system.
Vibrational excitation through tug-of-war inelastic collisions

- 2008
It is suggested that this ‘tug of war’ between H and D2 is a new mechanism for vibrational excitation that should play a role in all neutral–neutral collisions where strong attraction can develop between the collision partners.

- 2006
Quantum-state-resolved differential cross sections of the O((1)D) + HD --> OH + D reaction at the collision energy of 7.11 kJ/mol has been determined experimentally and theoretically, providing a benchmark example of an asymmetric insertion Reaction at the state-to-state scattering level.
Vibrationally inelastic scattering of high- n Rydberg H atoms from N2 and O2.
- Physics, ChemistryPhysical review letters
- 2001
Vibrational excitation of O2 results largely from collisions in which an electron is briefly transferred from O2 to the proton core, while the Rydberg electron remains a spectator, providing further evidence that the free electron model applies to low energy collisions involving the ionic core leading to substantial momentum transfer.
