We provide a simple and explicit construction of local bulk operators that describe the interior of a black hole in the AdS/CFT correspondence. The existence of these operators is predicated on the assumption that the mapping of CFT operators to local bulk operators depends on the state of the CFT. We show that our construction leads to an exactly local effective field theory in the bulk. Barring the fact that their charge and energy can be measured at infinity, we show that the commutator of…
Finite N and the failure of bulk locality: black holes in AdS/CFT
A bstractWe consider bulk quantum fields in AdS/CFT in the background of an eternal black hole. We show that for black holes with finite entropy, correlation functions of semiclassical bulk operators
Remarks on the necessity and implications of state-dependence in the black hole interior
We revisit the ``state-dependence'' of the map that we proposed recently between bulk operators in the interior of a large anti--de Sitter black hole and operators in the boundary CFT. By refining
A toy model of black hole complementarity
A bstractWe consider the algebra of simple operators defined in a time band in a CFT with a holographic dual. When the band is smaller than the light crossing time of AdS, an entire causal diamond in
Smooth Causal Patches for AdS Black Holes
We review the paradox of low energy excitations of a black hole in anti--de Sitter space (AdS). An appropriately chosen unitary operator in the boundary theory can create a locally strong excitation
Asymmetric interiors for small black holes
A bstractWe develop the representation of infalling observers and bulk fields in the CFT as a way to understand the black hole interior in AdS. We first discuss properties of CFT states which are
Title CFT descriptions of bulk local states in the AdS black holes
We present a new method for reconstructing CFT duals of states excited by the bulk local operators in the three dimensional AdS black holes in the AdS/CFT context. As an important procedure for this,
Hologram of a pure state black hole
In this paper we extend the HKLL holographic smearing function method to reconstruct (quasi)local AdS bulk scalar observables in the background of a large AdS black hole formed by null shell collapse
Exploring the BTZ bulk with boundary conformal blocks
We point out a simple relation between the bulk field at an arbitrary radial position and the boundary OPE, by placing some old work by Ferrara, Gatto, Grillo and Parisi in the AdS/CFT context. This
CFT descriptions of bulk local states in the AdS black holes
A bstractWe present a new method for reconstructing CFT duals of states excited by the bulk local operators in the three dimensional AdS black holes in the AdS/CFT context. As an important procedure
Does boundary quantum mechanics imply quantum mechanics in the bulk?
A bstractPerturbative bulk reconstruction in AdS/CFT starts by representing a free bulk field ϕ(0) as a smeared operator in the CFT. A series of 1/N corrections must be added to ϕ(0) to represent an

AdS black holes, the bulk-boundary dictionary, and smearing functions
In Lorentzian AdS/CFT there exists a mapping between local bulk operators and nonlocal conformal field theory (CFT) operators. In global anti-de Sitter (AdS) this mapping can be found through use of
CFT representation of interacting bulk gauge fields in AdS
We develop the representation of interacting bulk gauge fields and charged scalar matter in AdS in terms of non-local observables in the dual CFT. We work in holographic gauge in the bulk, A_z = 0.
Local bulk operators in AdS/CFT correspondence : A boundary view of horizons and locality
We develop the representation of local bulk fields in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space by nonlocal operators on the boundary, working in the semiclassical limit and using ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{2}$ as our main
Holography of the BTZ black hole, inside and out
A bstractWe propose a 1+1 dimensional CFT dual structure for quantum gravity and matter on the extended 2 + 1 dimensional BTZ black hole, realized as a quotient of the Poincaré patch of AdS3. The
Bulk Cluster Decomposition in AdS/CFT and A No-Go Theorem for Correlators in Microstates of Extremal Black Holes
Applying the thermo-field double formalism to extremal black holes in AdS with a macroscopic horizon, we show that (1) there exists a natural basis for the degenerate microstates of an extremal black
An infalling observer in AdS/CFT
A bstractWe describe the experience of an observer falling into a black hole using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In order to do this, we reconstruct the local bulk operators measured by the observer
Black hole interior in the holographic correspondence and the information paradox.
This work describes a remarkably simple construction of certain kinds of operators in the conformal field theory (CFT) on a given state of the CFT, which leads to a smooth horizon, addresses the strong subadditivity paradox, while preserving locality within effective field theory.
Null Geodesics, Local CFT Operators and AdS/CFT for Subregions
We investigate the nature of the AdS/CFT duality between a subregion of the bulk and its boundary. In global AdS/CFT in the classical G_N=0 limit, the duality reduces to a boundary value problem that
Effective field theory models for nonviolent information transfer from black holes
Transfer of quantum information from the interior of a black hole to its atmosphere is described, in models based on effective field theory. This description illustrates that such transfer need not
Eternal Black Holes and Superselection in AdS/CFT
It has been argued i) that Lorentz-signature solutions with wormholes connecting n asymptotically AdS regions describe bulk quantum states dual to n entangled but non-interacting CFTs and ii) that
