We report 350 and 230 GHz observations of molecular gas and dust in the starburst nucleus of NGC 253 at 20-40 pc (1 ''-2 '') resolution. The data contain CO(3-2), HCN(4-3), CO(2-1), (CO)-C-13(2-1), (CO)-O-18(2-1), and continuum at 0.87 mm and 1.3 mm toward the central kiloparsec. The CO(2-1) size of the galaxy's central molecular zone (CMZ) is measured to be about 300 pc x 100 pc at the half-maximum of intensity. Five clumps of dense and warm gas stand out in the CMZ at arcsecond resolution… Expand

Diverse Nuclear Star-forming Activities in the Heart of NGC 253 Resolved with 10-pc-scale ALMA Images
We present an 8 pc x 5 pc resolution view of the central ~ 200 pc region of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 253, based on ALMA Band 7 ({\lambda} ~ 0.85 mm or {\nu} ~ 350 GHz) observations covering 11Expand
ALMA Reveals the Molecular Medium Fueling the Nearest Nuclear Starburst
We use ALMA to derive the mass, length, and time scales associated with the nuclear starburst in NGC 253. This region forms ~2 M_sun/yr of stars and resembles other starbursts in scaling relations,Expand
The Molecular Outflow in NGC 253 at a Resolution of Two Parsecs
We present 0.15'' (~2.5pc) resolution ALMA CO(3-2) observations of the starbursting center in NGC253. Together with archival ALMA CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) data we decompose the emission into a disk andExpand
Spatially Resolved 12CO(2--1)/12CO(1--0) in the Starburst Galaxy NGC 253: Assessing Optical Depth to Constrain the Molecular Mass Outflow Rate
We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of 12CO(1-0) and 12CO(2-1) in the central 40" (680 pc) of the nuclear starburst galaxy NGC 253, including its molecularExpand
ALMA Observations of the Submillimeter Dense Molecular Gas Tracers in the Luminous Type-1 Active Nucleus of NGC 7469

ACA CI observations of the starburst galaxy NGC 253
Context. Carbon monoxide (CO) is widely used as a tracer of the molecular gas in almost all types of environments. However, several shortcomings of CO complicate usaging it as H-2 tracer, such as itsExpand
The Turbulent Gas Structure in the Centers of NGC 253 and the Milky Way
We compare molecular gas properties in the starbursting center of NGC253 and the Milky Way Galactic Center (GC) on scales of ~1-100 pc using dendograms and resolution-, area- and noise-matchedExpand
Dense gas in nearby galaxies XVII. The distribution of ammonia in NGC 253, Maffei 2, and IC 342
Context. The central few 100 pc of galaxies often contain large amounts of molecular gas. The chemical and physical properties of these extragalactic star formation regions differ from those inExpand
Clustered Star Formation in the Center of NGC 253 Contributes to Driving the Ionized Nuclear Wind
We present new 3 mm observations of the ionized gas toward the nuclear starburst in the nearby (D ∼ 3.5 Mpc) galaxy NGC 253. With ALMA, we detect emission from the H40α and He40α lines in the centralExpand

Molecular Superbubbles in the Starburst Galaxy NGC 253
The central 2; 1 kpc of the starburst galaxy NGC 253 have been imaged using the Submillimeter Array at a 60 pc resolution in the J = 2 - 1 transitions of (12)CO, (13)CO, and C(18)O, as well as in theExpand
The Distribution of the Dense Clouds in the Starburst Nucleus of NGC 253
We present 2'' ? 4'' resolution aperture synthesis observations of HCN J = 1 ? 0 emission from the starburst galaxy NGC 253. Because of its large critical density, HCN traces dense (nH2 104 cm-3)Expand
Detection of CO hot spots associated with young clusters in the southern starburst galaxy NGC 1365
We have used the Submillimeter Array for the first interferometric CO imaging toward the starburst-Seyfert nucleus of the southern barred spiral galaxy NGC 1365, which is one of the four galaxiesExpand
A Super-Star Cluster in NGC 253: Mid-Infrared Properties
