We derive the star formation histories of early-type galaxies at z 1.2 in both low and high density environments. To this purpose, we compare the co-added spectroscopic and 8–9 band photometric data of 43 mass selected early-type galaxies in the massive cluster RDCS J1252.9-2927 and the GOODS/CDF-S field with a large grid of composite stellar population models based on the Bruzual & Charlot templates. We find that the cluster early-type galaxies formed the bulk of their stars approximately 0… Expand
EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES AT z ∼ 1.3. III. ON THE DEPENDENCE OF FORMATION EPOCHS AND STAR FORMATION HISTORIES ON STELLAR MASS AND ENVIRONMENT
We study the environmental dependence of stellar population properties at z ~ 1.3. We derive galaxy properties (stellar masses, ages, and star formation histories) for samples of massive, red,Expand

Star-forming fractions and galaxy evolution with redshift in rich X-ray-selected galaxy clusters
We have compared stacked spectra of galaxies, grouped by environment and stellar mass, among 58 members of the redshift z = 1.24 galaxy cluster RDCS J1252.9-2927 (J1252.9) and 134 galaxies in the z =Expand
The morphological transformation of red sequence galaxies in clusters since z ∼ 1
The study of galaxy morphology is fundamental to understand the physical processes driving the structural evolution of galaxies. It has long been known that dense environments host high fractions ofExpand

On the initial mass function and tilt of the fundamental plane of massive early-type galaxies
We investigate the most plausible stellar initial mass function (IMF) and the main origin of the tilt of the fundamental plane (FP) for old, massive early-type galaxies. We consider a sample of 13Expand
