[Stable coronary heart disease - when is bypass surgery appropriate?].

Medical treatment is the therapeutic cornerstone in patients with stable coronary artery disease (SCAD). Although an increasing number of these patients is treated with percutaneous interventions (PCI), bypass surgery remains an important therapeutic option. Bypass surgery improves the prognosis of patients with complex coronary anatomy as compared to PCI. Modern surgical techniques lead to a considerable reduction of the invasiveness of the operation.
