We investigate the dynamical stability of warped, axially symmetric compactifications in anomaly free 6D gauged supergravity. The solutions have conical defects, which we source by 3-branes placed on orbifold fixed points, and a smooth limit to the classic sphere-monopole compactification. Like for the sphere, the extra fields that are generically required by anomaly freedom are especially relevant for stability. With positive tension branes only, there is a strict stability criterion…

General perturbations for braneworld compactifications and the six dimensional case

Our main objective is to study how braneworld models of higher codimension differ from the 5D case and traditional Kaluza-Klein compactifications. We first derive the classical dynamics describing

Supersymmetric codimension-two branes in six-dimensional gauged supergravity

We consider the six-dimensional Salam-Sezgin supergravity in the presence of codimension-2 branes. In the case that the branes carry only tension, we provide a way to supersymmetrise them by adding

Hybrid compactifications and brane gravity in six dimensions

We consider a six-dimensional axisymmetric Einstein–Maxwell model of warped braneworlds. The bulk is bounded by two branes, one of which is a conical 3-brane and the other is a 4-brane wrapped around

The fate of unstable gauge flux compactifications

Fluxes are widely used to stabilise extra dimensions, but the supporting monopole-like configurations are often unstable, particularly if they arise as gauge flux within a non-abelian gauge sector.

Bulk renormalization and particle spectrum in codimension-two brane worlds

We study the Casimir energy due to bulk loops of matter fields in codimension-two brane worlds and discuss how effective field theory methods allow us to use this result to renormalize the bulk and

The Effective field theory of codimension-two branes

Distributional sources of matter on codimension-two and higher branes are only well-defined as regularized objects. Nevertheless, intuition from effective field theory suggests that the low-energy

A comment on p-branes of (p+3)d string theory

We argue that in (p+3)d string theory the existence of NS-NS type p-brane with negative tension is essential to obtain background geometry R2 or R2/Zn on the transverse dimensions, and the usual

Gravitational forces on a codimension-2 brane

A bstractWe compute the gravitational response of six dimensional gauged, chiral supergravity to localized stress energy on one of two space-filling branes, including the effects of compactifying the

Black Holes and Instabilities of Negative Tension Branes

We consider the collision in $2+1$ dimensions of a black hole and a negative tension brane on an orbifold. Because there is no gravitational radiation in $2+1$ dimensions, the horizon area shrinks

4d-flat compactifications with brane vorticities

We present solutions in six-dimensional gravity coupled to a sigma model, in the presence of three-brane sources. The space transverse to the branes is a compact non-singular manifold. The example of

Gauss-Bonnet gravity renders negative tension braneworlds unstable

We show that the addition of the Gauss-Bonnet term to Einstein gravity induces a tachyon mode in the spin two fluctuations of the Randall-Sundrum I model. We demonstrate that this instability is

Scaling solutions to 6D gauged chiral supergravity

We construct explicitly time-dependent exact solutions to the field equations of six-dimensional (6D) gauged chiral supergravity, compactified to 4D in the presence of up to two three-branes situated

Kicking the rugby ball: perturbations of 6D gauged chiral supergravity

We analyse the axially symmetric scalar perturbations of 6D chiral gauged supergravity compactified on the general warped geometries in the presence of two source branes. We find that all of the

Non-Compact Compactifications with Brane Worlds

The possibility of neutral, brane-like solutions in a higher dimensional setting is discussed. In particular, we describe a supersymmetric solution in six dimensions which can be interpreted as a

Gravitino in six-dimensional warped supergravity

Sidestepping the cosmological constant with football shaped extra dimensions

We present an exact solution for a factorizable brane-world spacetime with two extra dimensions and explicit brane sources. The compactification manifold has the topology of a two-sphere, and is

SUSY breaking and moduli stabilization from fluxes in gauged 6D supergravity

We construct the 4D N=1 supergravity which describes the low-energy limit of 6D supergravity compactified on a sphere with a monopole background a la Salam and Sezgin. This provides a simple setting

Brane cosmological solutions in six-dimensional warped flux compactifications

We study cosmology on a conical brane in the six-dimensional Einstein–Maxwell-dilaton system, where the extra dimensions are compactified by a magnetic flux. We systematically construct exact
