We investigate the dynamical stability of warped, axially symmetric compactifications in anomaly free 6D gauged supergravity. The solutions have conical defects, which we source by 3-branes placed on orbifold fixed points, and a smooth limit to the classic sphere-monopole compactification. Like for the sphere, the extra fields that are generically required by anomaly freedom are especially relevant for stability. With positive tension branes only, there is a strict stability criterion…

General perturbations for braneworld compactifications and the six dimensional case
- Physics

Our main objective is to study how braneworld models of higher codimension differ from the 5D case and traditional Kaluza-Klein compactifications. We first derive the classical dynamics describing…

We consider the six-dimensional Salam-Sezgin supergravity in the presence of codimension-2 branes. In the case that the branes carry only tension, we provide a way to supersymmetrise them by adding…
Hybrid compactifications and brane gravity in six dimensions
- Physics

We consider a six-dimensional axisymmetric Einstein–Maxwell model of warped braneworlds. The bulk is bounded by two branes, one of which is a conical 3-brane and the other is a 4-brane wrapped around…
The fate of unstable gauge flux compactifications
- Physics

Fluxes are widely used to stabilise extra dimensions, but the supporting monopole-like configurations are often unstable, particularly if they arise as gauge flux within a non-abelian gauge sector.…

We study the Casimir energy due to bulk loops of matter fields in codimension-two brane worlds and discuss how effective field theory methods allow us to use this result to renormalize the bulk and…
The Effective field theory of codimension-two branes
- Physics

Distributional sources of matter on codimension-two and higher branes are only well-defined as regularized objects. Nevertheless, intuition from effective field theory suggests that the low-energy…

We argue that in (p+3)d string theory the existence of NS-NS type p-brane with negative tension is essential to obtain background geometry R2 or R2/Zn on the transverse dimensions, and the usual…

We consider the collision in $2+1$ dimensions of a black hole and a negative tension brane on an orbifold. Because there is no gravitational radiation in $2+1$ dimensions, the horizon area shrinks…

We show that the addition of the Gauss-Bonnet term to Einstein gravity induces a tachyon mode in the spin two fluctuations of the Randall-Sundrum I model. We demonstrate that this instability is…
