We report the discovery using Spitzer's high-resolution spectrograph of seven active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in a sample of 32 late-type galaxies that show no definitive signatures of AGNs in their optical spectra. These observations suggest that the AGN detection rate in late-type galaxies is possibly 4 times larger than what optical spectroscopic observations alone suggest. We demonstrate using photoionization models with an input AGN and an extreme UV-bright starburst ionizing radiation field…
THE INCIDENCE OF ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI IN PURE DISK GALAXIES: THE SPITZER VIEW
Using the Spitzer telescope, we have conducted a high-resolution spectroscopic study of 18 bulgeless (Hubble type of Sd or Sdm) galaxies that show no definitive signatures of nuclear activity in
Chandra Survey of Nearby Galaxies: The Catalog
We searched the public archive of the Chandra X-ray Observatory as of 2016 March and assembled a sample of 719 galaxies within 50 Mpc with available Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer observations. By
BLACK HOLES IN BULGELESS GALAXIES: AN XMM-NEWTON INVESTIGATION OF NGC 3367 AND NGC 4536
The vast majority of optically identified active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the local universe reside in host galaxies with prominent bulges, supporting the hypothesis that black hole formation and
A MULTI-WAVELENGTH ANALYSIS OF NGC 4178: A BULGELESS GALAXY WITH AN ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEUS
We present Gemini longslit optical spectroscopy and Very Large Array radio observations of the nuclear region of NGC 4178, a late-type bulgeless disk galaxy recently confirmed to host an active
NuSTAR unveils a heavily obscured low-luminosity Active Galactic Nucleus in the Luminous Infrared Galaxy NGC 6286
We report the detection of a heavily obscured active galactic nucleus (AGN) in the luminous infrared galaxy (LIRG) NGC 6286 identified in a 17.5 ks Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array observation.
The Diagnostic Potential of JWST in Characterizing Elusive AGNs
It is now clear that a significant population of accreting black holes are undetected by commonly employed optical, mid-infrared color, X-ray, and radio selection methods as a result of obscuration
A CHANDRA VIEW OF NGC 3621: A BULGELESS GALAXY HOSTING AN AGN IN ITS EARLY PHASE?
We report the detection of a weak X-ray point-source coincident with the nucleus of the bulgeless disk galaxy NGC 3621, recently discovered by Spitzer to display high-ionization mid-infrared lines
A Near-infrared Look at AGN Feedback in Bulgeless Galaxies
While it is generally believed that supermassive black holes (SMBHs) lie in most galaxies with bulges, few SMBHs have been confirmed in bulgeless galaxies. Identifying such a population could provide
A Spitzer Spectral Atlas of Low-mass Active Galactic Nuclei
We present Spitzer low-resolution Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) spectra (5 μm 40 μm) of a sample of 41 Type 1 and Type 2 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with estimated black hole masses of , in order to
EMISSION AND ABSORPTION PROPERTIES OF LOW-MASS TYPE 2 ACTIVE GALAXIES WITH XMM-NEWTON
We present XMM-Newton observations of four low-redshift Seyfert galaxies selected to have low host luminosities (Mg > − 20 mag) and small stellar velocity dispersions (σ* <45 km s−1), which are among

Detection of compact ultraviolet nuclear emission in liner galaxies
Low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions (LINERs), which exist in a large fraction of galaxies, may be the least luminous manifestation of quasar activity. As such, they may make possible the
Mid-Infrared Spectral Diagnostics of Nuclear and Extranuclear Regions in Nearby Galaxies
Mid-infrared diagnostics are presented for a large portion of the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) sample plus archival data from ISO and Spitzer. The SINGS data set includes low- and
