We consider rigid rotating closed strings with spikes in AdS5 dual to certain higher twist operators in N = 4 SYM theory. In the limit of large spin when the spikes reach the boundary of AdS5, the solutions with different numbers of spikes are related by conformal transformations, implying that their energy is determined by the same function of the ‘t Hooft coupling f() that appears in the anomalous dimension of twist 2 operators or in the cusp anomaly. In the limit when the number of spikes…

On N-spike strings in conformal gauge with NS-NS fluxes

The AdS3 × S3 string sigma model supported both by NS-NS and R-R fluxes has become a well known integrable model, however a putative dual field theory description remains incomplete. We study the

New open string solutions in AdS(5)

We describe new solutions for open string moving in AdS 5 and ending in the boundary, namely, dual to Wilson loops in N = 4 SYM theory. First we introduce an ansatz for Euclidean curves whose shape

From weak coupling to spinning strings

We identify the gauge theory dual of a spinning string of minimal energy with spins S1, S2 on AdS5 and charge J on S5. For this purpose we focus on a certain set of local operators with two different

A Spin Chain from String Theory

We study the semiclassical spectrum of bosonic string theory on AdS_3 x S^1 in the limit of large AdS angular momentum. At leading semiclassical order, this is a subsector of the IIB superstring on

Leading quantum correction to energy of ‘short’ spiky strings

We consider semiclassical quantization of spiky strings spinning in the AdS3 part of AdS5 × S5 using an integrability-based (algebraic curve) method. In the ‘short-string’ (small-spin) limit the

Multi-spike strings in AdS3 with mixed three-form fluxes

A bstractThe string sigma model in AdS3 ×S3 supported by mixed three-form fluxes has recently been proved to be integrable which led to a plethora of work in this background including proposals for S

On the giant magnon and spike solutions for strings on AdS3 × S3

We study solutions for the rotating strings on the sphere with a background NS-NS field and on the anti-de-Sitter spacetime. We show the existence of magnon and single spike solutions on R × S2 in

Sum rules for higher twist sl(2)operators in N=4 SYM

The spectrum of anomalous dimensions of twist sl(2) operators in N=4 SYM has an intriguing feature in low twist 2 or 3. The anomalous dimension of the lowest state, dual a folded string on AdS_5 X

Spiky strings in the SL(2) Bethe Ansatz

We consider spiky strings in the context of the SL(2) Bethe ansatz equations. We obtain an asymmetric distribution of Bethe roots along one cut which determines the all loop anomalous dimension at

Spiky strings and single trace operators in gauge theories

We consider single trace operators of the form l1...ln = Tr D+l1F...D+lnF which are common to all gauge theories. We argue that, when all li are equal and large, they have a dual description as

Wilson loops and anomalous dimensions in cascading theories

We use lightlike Wilson loops and the AdS Conformal Field Theory correspondence to compute the anomalous dimensions of twist-2 operators in the cascading [Klebanov-Strassler (KS)] theory. The

Strong-coupling expansion of cusp anomaly from quantum superstring

We consider the world surface in AdS5 that ends on two intersecting null lines at the boundary. The corresponding superstring partition function describes the expectation value of the Wilson line

Light-Cone Wilson Loops and the String/Gauge Correspondence

We investigate a \Pi-shape Wilson loop in N=4 super Yang--Mills theory, which lies partially at the light-cone, and consider an associated open superstring in AdS_5 x S^5. We discuss how this Wilson

It is argued that semiclassical string energies yield information on the quantum spectrum of the string in the limit of large angular momenta on the S5, leading to an asymptotic all-loop conjecture for the gauge theory Bethe equations.

Semiclassical relativistic strings in S 5 and long coherent operators in = 4 SYM theory

We consider the low energy effective action corresponding to the 1-loop, planar, dilatation operator in the scalar sector of = 4 SU(N) SYM theory. For a general class of non-holomorphic ``long''

Cosmologies with null singularities and their gauge theory duals

We investigate backgrounds of Type IIB string theory with null singularities and their duals proposed in S. R. Das, J. Michelson, K. Narayan, S. P. Trivedi, hep-th/0602107. The dual theory is a
