A Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterial strain, designated TR6-04(T), was isolated from compost and characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. The organism grew optimally at 30 degrees Celsius and at pH 6.5-7.0. The isolate was positive for catalase and oxidase tests but negative for gelatinase, indole and H(2)S production. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain TR6-04(T) fell within the radiation of the…

TLDR
The taxonomic position of a novel Gram-negative strain isolated from a farm-soil sample obtained from Jiangsu Province, PR China, was characterized by using a polyphasic approach and it was demonstrated that strain SY1(T) should be classified as representing a novel species of the genus Sphingobacterium for which the name SphingOBacterium siyangense sp.
Sphingobacterium paludis sp. nov., isolated from wetland soil.
TLDR
Based on its phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics and phylogenetic data, strain S37(T), isolated from soil of the Xixi wetland, Zhejiang province, China, represents a novel species of the genus Sphingobacterium, for which the name SphingOBacterium paludis sp.

Sphingopyxis granuli sp. nov., a beta-glucosidase-producing bacterium in the family Sphingomonadaceae in alpha-4 subclass of the Proteobacteria.
TLDR
DNA-DNA hybridization and physiological and biochemical tests clearly demonstrated that strain Kw07T represents a distinct species and should be classified as the type strain for a novel Sphingopyxis species, for which the name Sphingopexis granuli sp.
Sphingobacterium antarcticus sp. nov., a Psychrotrophic Bacterium from the Soils of Schirmacher Oasis, Antarctica
TLDR
Two pure cultures of bacteria isolated from soil samples collected in Schirmacher Oasis, Antarctica, conformed to the definition of the genus Sphingobacterium, and were found to be psychrotrophic and 7% homology with S. multivorum and S. spiritivorum.
Proposals of Sphingobacterium faecium sp. nov., Sphingobacterium piscium sp. nov., Sphingobacterium heparinum comb. nov., sphingobacterium thalpophilum comb. nov. and two genospecies of the genus Sphingobacterium, and synonymy of Flavobacterium yabuuchiae and Sphingobacterium spiritivorum.
TLDR
Two new species and two new combinations are proposed based on their chemotaxonomic and physiological characteristics together with DNA/DNA hybridization studies, and Flavobacterium yabuuchiae was found to be a synonym of Sphingobacteria spiritivorum.
Flavobacterium multivorum, a New Species Isolated from Human Clinical Specimens and Previously Known as Group IIk, Biotype 2
TLDR
A new species, with the name Flavobacterium multivorum, is proposed for these 28 strains, which could not be assigned to any previously defined species because of their ability to produce acid from a range of carbohydrates and their resistance to antimicrobial agents.
Flavobacterium spiritivorum, a New Species Isolated from Human Clinical Specimens
TLDR
A distinguishing feature of the new species is its ability to produce acid from various carbohydrates and alcohols, which distinguishes them from all other Flavobacterium species.
