The ultrastructure of the male reproductive system of Didymocystis wedli was studied for the first time, demonstrating spermiogenesis and spermatogenesis at different cell stages. The spermatozoa morphology was compared with that of other Digenea species. It was observed that the different cells of the spermatogenesis process follow the classic pattern reported for the majority of the parasitic platyhelminthes. During spermiogenesis, rootlet fibers, electrondense bodies and median cytoplasmic… Expand

TLDR
It may be concluded that the ultrastructure of spermatogenesis in amphistome O. scoliocoelium basically follows the common digenean plan. Expand
SPERMIOGENESIS AND ULTRASTRUCTURE OF THE SPERMATOZOON OF THE LIVER FLUKE FASCIOLA GIGANTICA COBBOLD, 1856 (DIGENEA: FASCIOLIDAE), A PARASITE OF CATTLE IN SENEGAL
TLDR

Spermiogenesis and sperm ultrastructure of Diphterostomum brusinae (Digenea, Zoogonidae), a parasite of Diplodus annularis (Pisces, Teleostei)
TLDR
The description of the ultrastructural features of reproduction in this species would contribute to the understanding of the phylogenetic relationships in the Zoogonidae family. Expand
Ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and the spermatozoon of Paramphistomum microbothrium (Fischoeder 1901; Digenea, Paramphistomidae), a parasite of Bos taurus in Senegal
TLDR
The ultrastructural study of spermiogenesis and the spermatozoon of Paramphistomum microbothrium gave evidence of some characteristics of this digenean, including a spine-like body that has never been described before in a digenesan. Expand

Atypical spermiogenesis in a parasitic flatworm, Didymozoon (trematoda: digenea: didymozoidae)
TLDR
Spermiogenesis in trematodes usually involves the formation in the spermatid of a characteristic structure, a protuberance called the zone of differentiation, but this structure was not found in Didymozoon, and there are no simple relationships between gonochorism and sperm structure in didymozoid trematode. Ultrastructure of spermatogenesis and sperm development in Saccocoelioides godoyi Kohn & Froes, 1986 (Digenea, Haploporidae).
TLDR
Ultrastructural observations of spermatogenesis and sperm development of Saccocoelioides godoyi, an intestinal parasite of Leporinus friderici, are described, showing nuclei, mitochondria and two axonemes with the 9+1 configuration. Expand
Spermiogenesis and spermatozoon of Echinostoma caproni (Platyhelminthes, Digenea): transmission and scanning electron microscopy, and tubulin immunocytochemistry.
TLDR
It is emphasized that the use of various methods provides a better understanding of sperm structure than transmission electron microscopy alone, particularly in the case of long, filiform spermatozoa. Expand
Spermatozoon and spermiogenesis in Mesocoelium monas (Platyhelminthes:Digenea): ultrastructure and epifluorescence microscopy of labelling of tubulin and nucleus.
TLDR
Various monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, specific to alpha, beta, acetylated-alpha, or general tubulin, were used and produced similar labelling and it was shown that one of the axonemes is slightly shorter than the other and that the filiform nucleus is located at the distal extremity of the spermatozoon. Ultrastructural study of spermatogenesis and the spermatozoon in Postorchigenes gymnesicus (Trematoda, Lecithodendriidae)
TLDR
Ulastructural features of the non‐nuclear region of the spermatozoon are specific for P. gymnesicus and are proposed to characterize the spermutozoon of digenean species. Expand
