Abstract The present study describes the ultrastructural organisation of the mature spermatozoon of the bucephalid digenean Prosorhynchoides arcuatus (Bucephalinae) collected from the Bluefish Pomatomus saltatrix (Teleostei: Pomatomidae) caught from the Gulf of Gabes in the Chebba (Tunisia) by means of transmission electron microscopy. The ultrastructural study reveals that the mature spermatozoon of P. arcuatus is a filiform cell which is tapered at both extremities. It exhibits the Bakhoum et… Expand
Ultrastructure of mature spermatozoa of three Bucephalidae (Prosorhynchus longisaccatus, Rhipidocotyle khalili and Bucephalus margaritae) and phylogenetic implications
TLDR
The mature spermatozoa of three species of bucephalids, namely Bucephalus margaritae, Rhipidocotyle khalili and Prosorhynchus longisaccatus are described and ultrastructural data is provided, enabling us to confirm the model of the matured spermatozoon in the Bucesphalinae. Expand
Sperm characters of the digenean Nephrotrema truncatum (Troglotrematidae): a kidney parasite of Crocidura russula (Soricidae) and their phylogenetic significance
TLDR
Spermatological characteristics of the troglotrematid digenean Nephrotrema truncatum, a parasite of the shrew Crocidura russula, have been investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy and reveal that the mature spermatozoon of N. trunCatum exhibits many ultrastructural characters previously described in most gorgoderoideans. Expand
Reinvestigation of the sperm ultrastructure of Hypoderaeum conoideum (Digenea: Echinostomatidae)
TLDR
The present ultrastructural study reveals that the mature spermatozoon of H. conoideum is a filiform cell tapered at both extremities, and its characters are compared with those of other digeneans belonging to the superfamily Echinostomatoidea. Expand
Spermatological characteristics of Sclerodistomoides pacificus (Digenea, Sclerodistomoididae) a parasite of the flying fish Cheilopogon pinnatibarbatus (Teleostei, Exocoetidae).
TLDR
The first ultrastructural data of the mature spermatozoon of a species from the genus Sclerodistomoides is presented, describing for the first time a moniliform mitochondrion in the Hemiuroidea. Expand
Sperm characteristics in the digenean Diplodiscus amphichrus (Paramphistomoidea, Diplodiscidae), a parasite of the Chinese edible frog Hoplobatrachus rugulosus
TLDR
Two characteristics of the male gamete of D. amphichrus were found for the first time in a digenean: the appearance of the initial part of the lateral expansion before the axonemes in the anterior extremity and the separation between the second axoneme and the nucleus in the posterior tip. Expand
Ultrastructure of the spermatozoon of Labracetabulum gephyroberici (Digenea, Opecoelidae) intestinal parasite of Gephyroberyx darwinii (Teleostei, Trachichtyidae) in Senegal
TLDR
This work is the first ultrastructural study of spermatozoa in a species of Digenea belonging to the genus Labracetabulum gephyroberici, and the morphology of the posterior extremity corresponds to the Opecoelidean type described by Quilichini et al. Expand

TLDR
The ultrastructure of the spermatozoon of a third genus and third species of Mesometridae, Centroderma spinosissima, is revealed and the presence of cytoplasmic ornamented buttons is a characteristic found only in the mature spermatoZoon of mesometrids and it probably represents an autapomorphy for this family.
