A rapid, sensitive and selective spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of micro amounts of selenium. This method is based on the absorptiometric measurement of the stable yellow colour formed by the reaction of selenium(IV) with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole in strong hydrochloric acid solution (more than 6·5 M). At 370 mµ, Beer's law is obeyed from 1 to 7 µg of selenium per ml, the optimum range being from 3 to 6 µg. The sensitivity and molar absorptivity at 370 mµ are 0…

Development of a new highly sensitive and selective spectrophotometric method for the determination of selenium at nano-trace levels in various complex matrices using salicylaldehyde-orthoaminophenol
A new spectrophotometric reagent, salicylaldehyde-orthoaminophenol (Sal-OAP) has been synthesized and characterized for the determination of selenium through novel reaction techniques. Also, a new
A study on the solvent extraction of Se/IV/ with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole into chloroform
The extraction of Se/IV/ from hydrochloric acid medium with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole/2-HMBT/into chloroform has been studied. The effect of various parameters on the extraction coefficient value such
Analytical Methods of Selenium Determination
Selenium occurs naturally in biological materials that vary from a few parts per billion to a few per cent. Methods for its determination, therefore, cover a wide range of concentrations. As a result
Tropical soil-plant interactions in relation to mineral imbalances in grazing livestock
1. A survey of the literature revealed that mineral imbalances were likely to arise in livestock grazing tropical pastures; that a variety of techniques involving soil, plant or animal measurements
