We select a sample of 70378 E/S0 (early-type) galaxies at 0<z<0.36 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, excluding disk and star-forming galaxies. We estimate g and r magnitudes in the observer- and rest-frames directly from the SDSS DR6 spectra; this provides an object-by-object estimate of the k-correction. We use the k-corrections from the spectra to study the evolution of the rest-frame colour-magnitude relation (CMR) and colour-sigma (velocity dispersion) relation (CsigmaR). The evolution is… Expand
Analytical approximations of K-corrections in optical and near-infrared bands
To compare photometric properties of galaxies at different redshifts, the fluxes need to be corrected for the changes of effective rest-frame wavelengths of filter bandpasses, called K-corrections.Expand
Photometric redshifts and K-corrections for Sloan Digital Sky Survey Seven Data Release
We present a catalogue of galaxy photometric redshifts and k-corrections for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Seven Data Release (SDSS-DR7), available on the World Wide Web. The photometric redshiftsExpand
Galaxy luminosities, stellar masses, sizes, velocity dispersions as a function of morphological type
We provide fits to the distribution of galaxy luminosity, size, velocity dispersion and stellar mass as a function of concentration index Cr and morphological type in the Sloan Digital Sky SurveyExpand
Colour gradients and the colour–magnitude relation: different properties of brightest cluster galaxies and E/S0 galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We examine the colour-magnitude relation of ~5000 brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The colour-magnitude and colour-velocity dispersion relations of the BCGsExpand
Curvature in the colour–magnitude relation but not in colour–σ: major dry mergers at M* > 2 × 1011 M⊙?
The colour-magnitude relation of early-type galaxies differs slightly but significantly from a pure power law, curving downwards at low and upwards at high luminosities (M r > -20.5 and M r 2 × 10 11Expand
An accurate new method of calculating absolute magnitudes and K-corrections applied to the Sloan filter set
We describe an accurate new method for determining absolute magnitudes, and hence also K-corrections, which is simpler than most previous methods, being based on a quadratic function of just oneExpand
Multiwavelength investigations of co-evolution of bright cluster galaxies and their host clusters
We report a systematic multi-wavelength investigation of environments of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), using the X-ray data from the Chandra archive, and optical images taken with 34'x 27'Expand
The trace of a substantial assembly of massive E-S0 galaxies at 0.8 < z < 1.5 in galaxy number counts
K-band galaxy number counts (GNCs) exhibit a slope change at K~17.5 mag not present in optical bands. To unveil the nature of this feature, we have derived the contribution of different galaxy typesExpand
Colour gradients within SDSS DR7 galaxies: hints of recent evolution
The evolutionary path followed by a galaxy shapes its internal structure, and, in particular, its internal colour variation. We present a study of the internal colour variation within galaxies fromExpand
Fossil group origins - III. The relation between optical and X-ray luminosities
Aims. This study is part of the Fossil group origins (FOGO) project which aims to carry out a systematic and multiwavelength study of a large sample of fossil systems. Here we focus on the relationExpand
