We discuss new-type grand unified theories based on grand unified groups broken to their special subgroups as well as their regular subgroups. In the framework, when we construct four-dimensional (4D) chiral gauge theories, i.e., the Standard Model (SM), 4D gauge anomaly cancellation restricts the minimal number of generations of the 4D SM Weyl fermions. We show that in a six-dimensional (6D) $SU(16)$ gauge theory on $M^4\times T^2/\mathbb{Z}_2$ one generation of the SM fermions can be embedded…

We discuss family unification in grand unified theory (GUT) based on an $SU(19)$ GUT gauge group broken to its subgroups including a special subgroup. In the $SU(19)$ GUT on the six-dimensional (6D)

String-Inspired Special Grand Unification

We discuss a grand unified theory (GUT) based on an $SO(32)$ GUT gauge group broken to its subgroups including a special subgroup. In the $SO(32)$ GUT on six-dimensional (6D) orbifold space

Extending Symmetries of the Standard Model towards Grand Unification

In this master thesis the spacetime, global and gauge symmetries of the Standard Model are reviewed. These symmetries are used as a basis for finding possible extensions of this successful model,

$USp(32)$ Special Grand Unification

We discuss a grand unified theory (GUT) based on a $USp(32)$ GUT gauge group broken to its subgroups including a special subgroup. A GUT based on an $SO(32)$ GUT gauge group has been discussed on

Electroweak Symmetry Breaking and Mass Spectra in Six-Dimensional Gauge-Higgs Grand Unification

The mass spectra of the standard model particles are reproduced in the $SO(11)$ gauge-Higgs grand unification in the six-dimensional warped space without introducing exotic light fermions. Light

Dynamical breaking to special or regular subgroups in the SO(N) Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model

It was recently shown that in four-dimensional $SU(N)$ Nambu–Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type models, the $SU(N)$ symmetry breaking into its special subgroups is not special but much more common than that

Is Symmetry Breaking into Special Subgroup Special?

The purpose of this paper is to show that symmetry breaking into special subgroups is not special at all, contrary to the usual wisdom. To demonstrate this explicitly, we examine the dynamical

Linear Collider Signals of $Z'$ Bosons in GUT Inspired Gauge-Higgs Unification

In gauge-Higgs unification (GHU), the 4D Higgs boson appears as a part of the fifth dimensional component of 5D gauge field. Recently, an SO(11) GUT inspired SO(5) × U(1) × SU(3) GHU model has been

Fermion pair production at e−e+ linear collider experiments in GUT inspired gauge-Higgs unification

Fermion pair production at e-e+ linear collider experiments with polarized e- and e+ beams is examined in the GUT inspired SO(5)×U(1)×SU(3) gauge-Higgs unification. There arises large parity

The standard model gauge symmetry from higher-rank unified groups in grand gauge-Higgs unification models

A bstractWe study grand unified models in the five-dimensional space-time where the extra dimension is compactified on S1/ℤ2. The spontaneous breaking of unified gauge symmetries is achieved via

Gauge symmetry breaking patterns in an SU(5) grand gauge-Higgs unification model

We study gauge symmetry breaking patterns of the five-dimensional $SU(5)$ grand gauge-Higgs unification compactified on an orbifold $S^1/{\mathbb Z}_2$ with the Hosotani mechanism in the framework of

Grand Gauge-Higgs Unification

We propose a novel way to break grand unified gauge symmetries via the Hosotani mechanism in models that can accommodate chiral fermions. Adjoint scalar fields are realized through the so-called

Unification in 5D SO(10)

Gauge unification in a five dimensional supersymmetric SO(10) model compactified on an orbifold S1/(Z2 ? Z2') is studied. One orbifolding reduces N = 2 supersymmetry to N = 1, and the other breaks

An SO(18) grand unified theory is presented. All fermions belong to one irreducible 256-dimensional spinor representation. It is shown that (i) in a favorable case there are eight light and eight

Classification of Standard Model Particles in $E_6$ Orbifold Grand Unified Theories

We classify the standard model fermions, which originate from bulk fields of the 27 or representation after orbifold breaking, in E6 grand unified theories on five- or six-dimensional space–time,

Gauge-Higgs EW and grand unification

Four-dimensional Higgs field is identified with the extra-dimensional component of gauge potentials in the gauge-Higgs unification scenario. SO(5) × U(1) gauge-Higgs EW unification in the

New dimensions from gauge-Higgs unification

The Higgs boson is unified with gauge fields in the gauge-Higgs unification. The $SO(5) \times U(1)$ gauge-Higgs electroweak unification in the Randall-Sundrum warped space yields almost the same
