ABSTRA C T We present Chandra data from a 31.7-ks observation of the Centaurus cluster, using the ACIS-S detector. Images of the X-ray emission show a plume-like feature at the centre of the cluster, of extent 60 arcsec (20 kpc in projection). The feature has the same metallicity as gas at a similar radius, but is cooler. Using adaptive binning, we generate temperature, abundance and absorption maps of the cluster core. The radial abundance profile shows that the previously known, steep…
Chandra Observation of the Cooling Flow Cluster Abell 2052
We present an analysis of the Chandra X-ray observation of A2052, including large-scale properties of the cluster as well as the central region, which includes the bright radio source 3C 317. We
X-RAY DIAGNOSTICS OF THERMAL CONDITIONS OF THE HOT PLASMAS IN THE CENTAURUS CLUSTER
X-ray data of the Centaurus cluster, obtained with XMM-Newton for 45 ks, were analyzed. Deprojected EPIC spectra from concentric thin-shell regions were reproduced equally well by a single-phase
Spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy of cooling clusters of galaxies
We present spatially resolved X-ray spectra taken with the EPIC cameras of XMM-Newton of a sample of 17 cooling clusters and three non-cooling clusters for comparison. The deprojected spectra are
Enrichment in the Centaurus cluster of galaxies
We perform a detailed spatially resolved, spectroscopic, analysis of the core of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies using a deep Chandra X-ray observation and XMM-Newton data. The Centaurus cluster
Suzaku Observations of the Centaurus Cluster: Absence of Bulk Motions in the Intracluster Medium
The Centaurus cluster (z=0.0104) was observed with the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) onboard the Suzaku X-ray satellite in three pointings, one centered on the cluster core and the other two
Mapping small-scale temperature and abundance structures in the core of the Perseus cluster
We report further results from a 191-ks Chandra observation of the core of the Perseus cluster, Abell 426. The emission-weighted temperature and abundance structures are mapped in detail. There are
A Chandra observation of the disturbed cluster core of Abell 2204
We present results from an observation of the luminous cluster of galaxies Abell 2204 using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. We show the core of the cluster has a complex morphological structure, made
Fields and filaments in the core of the Centaurus cluster
We present high-resolution images of the Faraday rotation measure (RM) structure of the radio galaxy PKS 1246-410 at the centre of the Centaurus cluster. Comparison with Ha-line and soft X-ray
Chandra Analysis of A496: No Chemical Gradients across Cold Fronts
We present the results of a spatially resolved spectroscopic analysis of the galaxy cluster A496 with the S3 chip on board the Chandra satellite. We confirm the presence of a central positive
Cool X-ray emitting gas in the core of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies
We use a deep XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometer observation to examine the X-ray emission from the core of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies. We clearly detect Fe XVII emission at four

X-ray Spectroscopy of the Cluster of Galaxies Abell 1795 with XMM-Newton
The initial results from XMM-Newton observations of the rich cluster of galaxies Abell 1795 are presented. The spatially-resolved X-ray spectra taken by the European Photon Imaging Cameras (EPIC)
Two-Phase Intracluster Medium in the Centaurus Cluster of Galaxies
ASCA and ROSAT data of the Centaurus Cluster, containing a cD galaxy NGC 4696, were analyzed in a partial reanalysis of the work of Fukazawa et al., Fabian et al., and Allen & Fabian. Radial
Chandra imaging of the X-ray core of Abell 1795
We report the discovery of a 40 arcsec long X-ray filament in th e core of the cluster of galaxies A 1795. The feature coincides with an H+NII filament found by Cowie et al in the early 1980s and
ASCA Temperature Maps of Three Clusters of Galaxies Abell 1060, AWM7, and the Centaurus Cluster
We present two-dimensional temperature maps of three bright clusters of galaxies Abell 1060, AWM7, and the Centaurus cluster, based on multi-pointing observations with the ASCA GIS. The temperatures
ASCA Temperature Maps of Three Clusters of Galaxies Abell 1060 , AWM 7 , and the Centaurus Cluster
We present two-dimensional temperature maps of three bright clusters of galaxies Abell 1060, AWM 7, and the Centaurus cluster, based on multi-pointing observations with the ASCA GIS. The temperatures
ASCA and ROSAT observations of nearby cluster cooling flows
ABSTRA C T We present a detailed analysis of the X-ray properties of the cooling flows in a sample of nearby, X-ray-bright clusters of galaxies using high-quality ASCA spectra and ROSAT X-ray images.
Evidence for Merging in the Centaurus Cluster
We present a two-dimensional map of the gas temperature distribution in the Centaurus cluster, based on Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA) observations derived using a novel
Chandra imaging of the complex X-ray core of the Perseus cluster
ABSTRACT We report subarcsec-resolution X-ray imaging of the core ofthe Perseus cluster around thegalaxy NGC1275 with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The ROSAT-discovered holes asso-ciated with the
Hard X-ray emission from elliptical galaxies
ABSTRA C T We report the detection of hard X-ray emission components in the spectra of six nearby, giant elliptical galaxies observed with the ASCA satellite. The systems studied, which exhibit
On the soft X-ray spectrum of cooling flows
Strong evidence for cooling flows has been found in low-resolution X-ray imaging and spectra of many clusters of galaxies. However, high-resolution X-ray spectra of several clusters from the
