In this paper, we explore theoretically and experimentally the laser beam shaping ability resulting from the coaxial superposition of two coherent Gaussian beams (GBs). This technique is classified under interferometric laser beam shaping techniques contrasting with the usual ones based on diffraction. The experimental setup does not involve the use of some two-wave interferometer but uses a spatial light modulator for the generation of the necessary interference term. This allows one to avoid…
Spatial superpositions of Gaussian beams
We explore an interferometric beam shaping technique that considers the coaxial superposition of two Gaussian beams. This technique is traditionally implemented in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer;
Comparison between interferometric and diffractive laser beam shaping
We consider the transformation of a Gaussian laser beam into a flat-top intensity profile or into an optical bottle beam (OBB) by resorting to a diffractive or an interferometric method. The
Spatial properties of rectified cosine Gaussian beams
The cosine Gaussian beam (CGB) resulting from the coherent coaxial superposition of two Gaussian beams having the same width W and opposite radii of curvature R and − R is a ringed beam characterized
Transformation of a LG10 beam into an optical bottle beam
We have demonstrated that a simple diaphragm can play the role of a very cheap reconfigurable diffractive optical element allowing the generation of interesting laser beam patterns. For instance, a
Emission of stable picosecond flat-top beam from passively Q-switched microchip lasers
Abstract. We have demonstrated direct and stable flat-top beam emission from a passively Q-switched microchip laser, featuring an intracavity spot-defect for mode selecting. By adjusting the distance
Flexible control of laser transverse modes using a Fox-Smith mirror
The Fox-Smith mirror (FSM) has long been used in a three-mirror laser cavity arrangement for forcing the laser oscillation on a single-longitudinal mode. However, its transverse properties are very
Extending a set of well-focused beams described by gamma and gamma-coupled functions.
TLDR
A computer simulation of the propagation characteristics of some new parametrically optimized higher-order beams with a sharp central peak demonstrates that, in relation to the previous gamma and gamma-coupled beams, most of the new beams have elevated levels of sidelobes in the waist plane.

Structure of optical singularities in coaxial superpositions of Laguerre-Gaussian modes.
TLDR
An elliptic-type folded singularity, which provides a different class of phase structures from familiar helical singularities, was predicted and observed in a superposition involving two LG modes of both radially and azimuthally higher orders.
Bottle beam from a bare laser for single-beam trapping.
TLDR
By calculating the radiation forces on a dielectric Rayleigh sphere in the bottle beam, it is shown that the single beam can trap high-refractive-index particles at the multiple axial sites of intensity maxima, and it can confine low- index particles on a transverse plane within the bottle regions.
Direct generation of optical bottle beams from a tightly focused end-pumped solid-state laser.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that various optical bottle beams can be directly generated from a tightly focused end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser by controlling the size of pump beam and intracavity aperture in a planoconcave cavity, and these beams result from the superposition of the fundamental mode and the corresponding lowest degenerate transverse eigenmode.

TLDR
An optical bottle beam trap created by interfering two fundamental Gaussian beams with different waists using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer is demonstrated.

Generation of a beam with a dark focus surrounded by regions of higher intensity: the optical bottle beam.
TLDR
A computer-generated hologram is used to form an optical beam with a localized intensity null at its focus that will have applications in the optical trapping of macroscopic objects or atoms; hence the term optical bottle beam.

A decomposition of guided modes propagating in optical fibers is implemented and it is shown that the observed field can be reconstructed with very high fidelity.
