It is known that there exist two different classes of time dependent solutions in the form of space-like (or S)-branes in the low energy M/string theory. Accelerating cosmologies are known to arise from S-branes in one class, but not in the other where the time-like holography in the dS/CFT type correspondence may be more transparent. We show how the accelerating cosmologies arise from S-branes in the other class. Although we do not get the de Sitter structure in the lowest order supergravity…

Alpha-prime corrections to space-like branes
Space-like branes or S-branes are certain class of time dependent solutions of M/string theories having isometries ISO(p+1) × SO(d−p−2,1), where d = 11,10 respectively and have singularities at t =
Space-like Dp branes: accelerating cosmologies versus conformally de Sitter space-time
A bstractWe consider the space-like Dp brane solutions of type II string theories having isometries ISO(p + 1) × SO(8 − p, 1). These are asymptotically flat solutions or in other words, the metrics
Towards integrability for AdS3/CFT2
In this thesis we consider certain supersymmetric string theories on curved backgrounds containing the three-dimensional anti-de Sitter space, AdS3. On the one hand, these are gravity theories in
Anisotropic SD2 brane: accelerating cosmology and Kasner-like space-time from compactification
Starting from an anisotropic (in all directions including the time direction of the brane) non-SUSY D2 brane solution of type IIA string theory we construct an anisotropic space-like D2 brane (or SD2
Gauge Theories with Time Dependent Couplings and their Cosmological Duals
We consider the N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory in flat 3 + 1-dimensional space-time with a time dependent coupling constant which vanishes at t = 0, like g 2 YM = t p . In an analogous quantum
Slowly varying dilaton cosmologies and their field theory duals
We consider a deformation of the AdS{sub 5}xS{sup 5} solution of IIB supergravity obtained by taking the boundary value of the dilaton to be time dependent. The time dependence is taken to be slowly
7D Randall-Sundrum cosmology, brane-bulk energy exchange, and holography
We discuss the cosmological implications and the holographic dual theory of the 7D Randall-Sundrum gravitational setup. Adding generic matter in the bulk on the 7D gravity side, we study the
One-loop corrections to AdS5 × S5 superstring partition function via Pohlmeyer reduction
We discuss semiclassical expansions around a class of classical string configurations lying in AdS3 × S1 using the Pohlmeyer-reduced form of the AdS5 × S5 superstring theory. The Pohlmeyer reduction
Pohlmeyer-reduced form of string theory in AdS5 × S5: semiclassical expansion
We consider the Pohlmeyer-reduced formulation of the AdS5 × S5 superstring. It is constructed by introducing new variables which are algebraically related to supercoset current components so that the

Accelerating cosmologies from M/String theory compactifications
Supergravity S-Branes
We construct supergravity solutions corresponding to space-like branes in string theory. Our approach is to apply the usual solution generating techniques to an appropriate time-dependent solution of
Eternally accelerating cosmologies from S-brane
We construct an eternally inflating spacelike brane world model. If the space dimension of the brane is three (SM2) or six (SM5) for M theory or four (SD3) for superstring theory, a time-dependent

We point out that the recently proposed model of a flat four-dimensional universe with accelerated expansion in string or M theory is a special case of time-dependent solutions that the author found
Space - like branes
Scalar field theories with appropriate potentials in Minkowski space can have time-dependent classical solutions containing topological defects which correspond to S-branes-i.e. branes all of whose
We study the relationship between static p-brane solitons and cosmological solutions of string theory or M theory. We discuss two different ways in which extremal p-branes can be generalized to
A Study of Accelerating Cosmologies from Superstring/M Theories
We study aspects of the accelerating cosmologies obtained from the compactification of the vacuum solution and S2-branes of superstring/M theories. The parameter dependence of the resulting expansion
Static, non-SUSY p-branes in diverse dimensions
We give explicit constructions of static, non-supersymmetric p-brane (for p• di 4, where d is the space-time dimensionality and including p = i1 or D-instanton) solutions of type II supergravities in
Time dependent supergravity solutions in arbitrary dimensions
By directly solving the equations of motion we obtain the time dependent solutions of supergravities with dilaton and a q-form field strength in arbitrary dimensions. The metrics are assumed to have
Compact hyperbolic extra dimensions: branes, kaluza-klein modes, and cosmology
It is shown that the spectrum of Kaluza-Klein modes is radically altered, which allows the early Universe to evolve normally up to substantial temperatures, and completely negates the astrophysical constraints on M(*.
