We study the Soret coefficient of binary molecular mixtures with dispersion forces. Relying on standard transport theory for liquids, we derive explicit expressions for the thermophoretic mobility and the Soret coefficient. Their sign depends on composition, the size ratio of the two species, and the ratio of Hamaker constants. Our results account for several features observed in experiment, such as a linear variation with the composition; they confirm the general rule that small molecules…

Theory of Soret coefficients in binary organic solvents.
TLDR
Calculations of enthalpies of evaporation from the model yield good agreement with experimental values, however, calculations of the associated energetic parameters were several times larger than those reported in the literature from numeric simulations of material transport.
Comment on "Soret motion in non-ionic binary molecular mixtures" [J. Chem. Phys. 135, 054102 (2011)].
TLDR
The material transport equations derived by Leroyer and Würger do not adequately provide a description of material transport in liquid binary systems and an alternate approach based on non-equilibrium thermodynamics is presented.
Mass effect on the Soret coefficient in n-alkane mixtures.
TLDR
It is shown that equimolar mixtures behave as isotopic-like mixtures in which only the mass effect contributes to the Soret effect, and a small linear dependence with the molar fraction is observed.
The Soret Effect in Liquid Mixtures – A Review
Abstract The Soret effect describes diffusive motion that originates from a temperature gradient. It is observed in mixtures of gases, liquids and even solids. Although there is a formal
Thermophoresis of polymers: nondraining vs draining coil.
TLDR
It is shown that the characteristic thermophoretic interaction decays as r(-2) with the distance from the chain segment, which is of much longer range than the underlying rapidly decaying binary van der Waals interaction.
Constitutive Relations of Thermal and Mass Diffusion
Abstract Non-equilibrium thermodynamics provides a general framework for the description of mass and thermal diffusion, thereby including also cross-thermal and material diffusion effects, which are
Can the Thermophoretic Mobility of Uncharged Colloids Be Predicted?
The thermophoretic motion of nonionic colloids in an inhomogeneous temperature field is due to the solvent-colloid dispersion interactions. The latter form an attractive near-particle "gravity" field

These findings explain the dependence on Mw observed recently for polystyrene, and its inverse Soret effect at very small Mw, and bridge the gap between the macroscopic hydrodynamics description for large solutes and the enthalpy-of-transport picture for small molecules.
