The interpretation of immature crystallization and some lunar textures characterized by it are the principal objectives of this investigation. A comparative and selective approach is adopted, and particular reference is made to the form and textural relations of olivine in 12009 and of pyroxenes and plagioclase in 12021, and to terrestrial analogs. The optic orientation of the olivines in 12009 is determined, and their skeletal crystallization is illustrated and evaluated. Microprobe and… Expand

Metastable Growth Patterns in Some Terrestrial and Lunar Rocks
With reference to new information on the textures in some terrestrial mafic and ultramafic igneous rocks of Tertiary age, textural patterns attributable to metastable crystallization are described,Expand
The nature of the groundmass of surficial suevite from the Ries impact structure, Germany, and constraints on its origin
Surficial suevites from the Ries impact structure have been investigated in the field and using optical and analytical scanning electron microscopy. The groundmass of these suevites comprisesExpand
Distinguishing between Apollo 14 impact melt and pristine mare basalt samples by geochemical and textural analyses of olivine
Abstract Apollo 14 (A-14) impact melt olivine vitrophyres (OVs), composed of olivine phenocrysts in an opaque glass matrix with minor amounts of pyroxene and plagioclase, are petrographically similarExpand
Impact melt rocks from the Ries structure, Germany: an origin as impact melt flows?
Abstract The production of impact melt rocks and glasses is a characteristic feature of hypervelocity impact events on Earth and other planetary bodies. This investigation represents the firstExpand
Basaltic diversity at the Apollo 12 landing site: Inferences from petrologic examinations of the soil sample 12003
A detailed petrologic survey has been made of 17 basaltic chips (sized between 1 and 10 mm) from the 12003 soil sample as part of an ongoing study of basaltic diversity at the Apollo 12 landing site.Expand
Impact glasses in fallout suevites from the Ries impact structure, Germany: An analytical SEM study
— t-Impact-generated glasses from fallout suevite deposits at the Ries impact structure have been investigated using analytical scanning electron microscopy. Approximately 320 analyses of glassExpand
Dissolution origin and syn-entrapment compositional change of melt inclusion in plagioclase
Abstract In the system Di–Ab–An–H 2 O, melt inclusions in plagioclase were reproducibly formed in a series of partial dissolution experiments, and the compositional differences from the surroundingExpand
