The internal component of measles virus as studied by the negative staining technique appeared as a spiral-like structure with an outer diameter of 160 to 190 Å, an inner diameter of about 50 Å and a pitch height of 55 to 60 Å. The longest structures seen were about 1500 mμ. Occasionally the internal component was surrounded by an extra tubular structure. This also had an appearance suggesting a spiral configuration. The diameter was 260 to 280 Å and the pitch height 70–75Å.
