Abstract 1. 1. Arylsulphatase, β-glucuronidase, β-galactosidase and peroxidase were examined in tissues of the scallop Chlamys opercularis . 2. 2. Arylsulphatase and β-glucuronidase were measured in extracts of hepatopancreas. 3. 3. β-Galactosidase activity was detected in hepatopancreas. 4. 4. Appreciable peroxidase activity was detected in roe and gill. The roe enzyme was studied in more detail than that of gill. 5. 5. Partial purification of each of the enzymes was achieved.
