The K-fixation capacity, total elemental composition, and mineralogy (0.2–2 μm fraction) of three acid sulfate soils in Sweden were investigated. The study was mainly based on comparisons between the Bwg and Cr horizons. The time elapsed since the sulfides had been oxidized was estimated at 100 years for the Histic Humaquept, 450–600 years for the Aeric Humic (Sulfic) Cryaquept, and 1100–1600 years for the Humic (Fluvaquentic) Haplaquept.
