ContentsIn this paper four difficulties within the framework of relativistic electrodynamics are revealed. The first two refer to the incompatibility of addition law of noncollinear velocities with the equations of Einstein-Minkowski electrodynamics. The lack of covariance of equations describing the electromagnetic wave propagation in any direction different from that of the velocity is the object of the last difficulties.ÜbersichtIn der vorliegenden Arbeit werden vier Schwierigkeiten der…

The relativistic velocity composition paradox and the Thomas rotation

The relativistic velocity composition paradox of Mocanu and its resolution are presented. The paradox, which rests on the bizarre and counterintuitive non-communtativity of the relativistic velocity

Successive Lorentz transformations of the electromagnetic field

A velocity-orientation formalism to deal with compositions of successive Lorentz transformations, emphasizing analogies shared by Lorentz and Galilean transformations, has recently been developed.

On the persistence of the ether as absolute space

We analyse how the concept of the ether, playing the role of absolute space, is still present in physics. When the problem is considered in the context of classical mechanics, we show that vestiges

Uniqueness of the Isotropic Frame and Usefulness of the Lorentz Transformation

According to the postulates of the special theory of relativity (STR), physical quantities such as proper times and Doppler shifts can be obtained from any inertial frame by regarding it as

SHOCK WAVES AND CERENKOV RADIATION IN ELECTROMAGNETIC SUBSTRATUM 769

The EM fields of charged particles moving with velocity v in a physical vacuum with wave carrier (substratum) are determined by means of the generalized, Galilei covariant Maxwell equations for

From Relativistic Paradoxes to Absolute Space and Time Physics

Contradicting Maxwell, Larmor, Heaviside, Hertz, and others, Voigt (1887), Lorentz (1904), and Einstein (1905) introduced the hypothesis that Maxwell’s equations and the electromagnetic (EM) wave

Ternary relative velocity ∗

We are proving that the Lorentz boost entails the relative velocity to be ternary: ternary relative velocity is a velocity of a body with respect to an interior observer as seen by a preferred

USING RELATIVE VELOCITIES AND HYPERBOLIC GEOMETRY IN SPECIAL RELATIVITY

Although in principle special relativity is based on the use of relative motions, the Einstein formulation of 1905 did not discuss relative velocities directly. It was only many years later that Fock

Thomas-Wigner rotation and Thomas precession: actualized approach

We show that the explanation of Thomas-Wigner rotation (TWR) and Thomas precession (TP) in the framework of special theory of relativity (STR) contains a number of points of inconsistency, in
