The importance of uniformity correction in the SPECT image quality cannot be overemphasized. An efficient interactive algorithm for the generation of uniformity correction coefficients has been developed by utilizing smoothing and window functions. An optimal number of counts required for SPECT uniformity correction has been analyzed. A relationship between SPECT uniformity information and image quality has been mathematically defined.
