Using 94 daily rain gauge stations, the mean dominant annual cycles in the Central American region were calculated using empirical orthogonal functions analysis. This allowed determination of some important aspects of this cycle such as the start and end of the rainy season and the mid summer drought. Some latitudinal variations were found in these variables.
