The effect of somatostatin on insulin secretion in response to a variety of stimuli was investigated in micro-dissected as well as collagenase isolated pancreatic rat islets. Somatostatin inhibited insulin secretion in both islet preparations in the presence of different initiators, but failed to affect the hormone output induced by theophylline, 1-methyl-3-isobutylxanthin (IBMX) or p-chloromercuriphenylsulfonic acid (CMBS).
