The effects of solvent systems on extraction of lipid components from commercially spray-dried egg yolks were investigated. Hexane, hexane:isopropanol (2:1), and chloroform:methanol (2:1) were studied, and the effects of temperature of extraction and ratio of solvent to egg were examined in a 3×2×2 factorial design. Hexane removed more fat and phospholipid and less cholesterol and pigment than the more polar solvents. Increased solvent ratio extracted more of the lipid components, although… Expand
Partial Lipid Extraction of Egg Yolk Powder: Effects on Emulsifying Properties and Soluble Protein Fraction
Egg yolk powder was partly defatted using hexane, 95% ethanol, isopropanol, chloroform-methanol (2:1, v:v) hexane-isopropanol (77:23, w:w) and hexane-ethanol (77:23, w:w). Hexane-isopropanol was mostExpand
Extraction of Phospholipids from Egg Yolk Flakes Using Aqueous Alcohols
Two alcohols, ethanol and butanol, with different water contents were evaluated for phospholipids (PL) sequential extraction from drum dried egg yolk flakes. It showed that butanol was more effectiveExpand
In situ solid phase extraction of phospholipids from heat-coagulated egg yolk by organic solvents
Abstract Heat-coagulated egg yolk packed into a chromatographic tube allows solvents to be led through with satisfactory flow rate effecting continuous extraction. This system is conceived as in situExpand
Extraction of cholesterol from dehydrated egg yolk with acetone : Determination of the practical phase equilibrium and simulation of the extraction process
Abstract The practical equilibrium conditions were determined for the extraction of cholesterol from dehydrated egg yolk using acetone as solvent. Under these conditions the equilibrium data wereExpand
Lipid Composition of Hexane and Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Reduced Cholesterol Dried Egg Yolk
Abstract Cholesterol was extracted from commercially spray-dried egg yolk using hexane at atmospheric pressure or supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) (45 C, 238 atm; 45 C, 306 atm; 55 C, 374 atm).Expand
Extraction of egg-yolk lecithin
In this research, the extraction of egg-yolk lecithin with ethanol was studied. Extraction was performed with deoiled and undeoiled yolks and with heated and unheated yolks. The yield of theExpand
N-3 fatty acid enriched eggs and production of egg yolk powders: an increased risk of lipid oxidation?
TLDR
Results highlighted the remarkable oxidative stability of control and enriched yolk powders as revealed by a moderate increase of the quantities of CD and MDA, the lack of oxidised cholesterol and small loss of α-tocopherol. Expand
Fat and Fatty Acid Concentrations in Some Green Vegetables
Petroleum ether is the solvent recommended by AOAC for fat determination using the Soxhlet method. However, hexane has also been used for defatting and for analysis of fat, lipids, and fatty acids inExpand
Development of antioxidant peptide fractions from egg yolk proteins using enzymatic hydrolysis and ultrafiltration membranes
Delipidated egg yolk proteins are considered as a by-product in the process of the lipid and protein separation. The major proportion of yolk protein exits as lipoproteins except for phosvitin andExpand
Co-solvent-modified supercritical carbon dioxide extractions of cholesterol and free amino acids from soft-shell turtle fish egg
Abstract This study examines the co-solvent-modified supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO 2 ) extraction of cholesterol and free amino acids from soft-shell turtle fish egg powder. ExtractionExpand
