Some of my summer jobs during high school were labourer positions with our local regional parks authority where I was part of a beach clean-up crew responsible for trash collection. This was my introduction to the field of waste collection using manual, rear-loader packer trucks, the most common collection practice in the United States at the time (mid-20th Century).
