Malignant tumors around fracture fixation implants have been reported sporadically for many years. Recently, however, reports of sarcomatous degeneration around a standard cemented hip arthroplasty and around cobalt-chromium-bearing hip arthroplasties raise new questions of the malignant potential of metallic ends prostheses.
